Introduction
 
Most people find writing business documents such as letters and memos challenging and their writing shows it. The wordings are fuzzy, repetitious, redundant with jargons and etc. Many times we write the way we think a business document should sound, instead of the way we would talk face-to-face with the other person. This program is designed to organise and structure the writing style that would produce the desired action of the reader.
Objectives
 
The program should achieve the following objectives:
  • Learn the principles of effective writing and their integrative functions
  • Identify reasons why people write and what elements should be present in any piece of business correspondence
  • Strengthen written language skills
  • Develop an increased sensitivity to style and the probable effect of the written message on the reader to produce the desired results
  • Plan out and implement writing procedures with confidence
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the writing

  • Avoiding business jargons, ambiguous and undefined terms and redundant repetitions
  • Using simple sentences to express complex ideas

Module 3: Developing an effective style for written communication
  • The element and characteristics of effective writing
    • Reader adaption
    • Vocabulary, grammer, syntax, punctuation

    • Letters: Layout, parts of a business letter, structure, categories and guidelines for composing letters
